The Chelsea Art Society has recently asked me to be its President. It is a great honour to take over from Julian Barrow, who presided for 23 years over its annual show in the Town Hall in King’s Road. Julian’s untimely death was a reminder not just of the brevity of life but of how important it is to try to spend it doing something you actually enjoy doing. His enthusiasm and humour was evident to everyone who knew him, and I was always struck by his generosity of spirit towards other artists- which is not always the case in a competitive world of the arts where one’s own self-doubt can so easily predominate and turn into snippiness.
The details of the exhibition, which is open to all, are on our website, and I will try to post regularly to encourage submissions. You need to be able to get your work to the Town Hall in Chelsea on Monday 16th June. Please apply for a form via the Society’s Secretary Heather Wills-Sandford- chelseaartsociety@gmail.com or by phone- 020 7731 3121.
